Studert-Prum Wehlene Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett ($16.95 - #970129) - interesting hit of spice amongst the orange, mineral/talc notes. (****)

Juan Gil 2010 Red ($21.95 - #001677) - this is a real beauty by one of my favourite producer of Spain; sexy, smooth, blackberry jam, mmm mmm. (****+)
Muga Conde de Haro Brut Cava ($19.95 - #168559) - a serious outing from Spain, good bubble, dry, citrus notes and apple core. (*** 1/2+) - SPK

United States (California) ...
Marilyn 25 Silver Anniversary Merlot 2009 ($39.95 - #306738) - often wondered about the seriousness of this wine: mocha, cinnamon dominated. (*** 1/2) - VAL
Marimar Estate 2007 La Masia Pinot Noir ($34.95 - #303974) - has a nice cherry, tobacco and peppered note. (****)
Sebastiani 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon ($19.95 - #640573) - nice and juicy. (*** 1/2+)
Simi 2010 Chardonnay ($20.95 - #673806) - lime and pear, vanilla and spice; very pleasant with a nice linger on the palate. (****)

MollyDooker 2010 The Maitre D' Cabernet Sauvignon ($29.95 - #246629) - juicy, jammy and jazzy; this is one delicious sip. (****)

Burrowing Owl 2009 Merlot ($41.95 - #585737) - lots of smoky edges with strawberry, plum, blackberry and blueberry on the interior. (****) - BC

Fantinel Extra Dry Prosecco ($14.95 - #297812) - lovely, elegant, sweet apple and tropical notes; this is a pretty sipper that could get you in a whole lotta trouble. (****)

Caprili 2007 Brunello di Montalcino ($44.95 - #305888) - mocha, strawberry with hints of herbal notes along with spice. (****)
Castellani Poggio Al Casone 2010 La Cattura ($18.95 - #121194) - has an interesting peppered-blackberry with sweetness at its core; really tasty. (****+)
Fattoria La Ripa 2009 Chianti Classico ($19.95 - #651596) - modern take on Chianti that seems to keep a rustic edge. (***1/2+)
I Greppi Greppicante Bolgheri 2009 ($23.95 - #170381) - nice and soft, almost too easy to drink. (****)

Bovin 2010 Vranec ($13.95 - #144345) - highly drinkable with chocolate and cherry; this is the surprise of the release. (*** 1/2)

LA Cetto 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon ($11.95 - #114066) - juicy strawberry, raspberry, kirsch; good value. (*** 1/2)

New Zealand ...
Spy Valley 2011 Sauvignon Blanc ($19.95 - #686675) - easy drinking Sauv Blanc with a mix of tropical and grapefruit.  (*** 1/2)

Portugal ...
Borges 2007 Vintage Port ($29.95 - #250639) - softer than you would expect from a young vintage port, though there is nice spice here.  (****)
Dow's 2007 Late Bottled Vintage Port ($16.95 - #613927) - lovely and expressive version of LBV with spiced chocolate and generous dark fruit; this is a must buy. (**** 1/2+)
Quinta de Foz de Arouce Red 2008 ($19.95 - #303545) - nicely integrated with juicy fruit and drying tannins, makes it an interesting wine to drink. (*** 1/2+)

Scotland ...
Dunkeld Atholl Brose ($49.95 - #303230) - not really sure what to make of this but wow talk about a head clearer: creamy, spicy, vanilla, it burns with some real bite yet there's an oatmeal note; weird but tasty. (****)

The Grinder 2011 Pinotage ($13.95 - #269076) - your morning beverage awaits in a glass of wine. (*** 1/2)

Borsao 2010 Tres Picos Garnacha ($19.95 - #273748) - lush and juicy, great dark fruit with chocolate at its core; good finish that screams black cherry, vanilla and just the right amount of tannins. (****+) - SPN
Planets de Prior Pons 2008 ($22.95 - #314559) - nice plummy, chocolaty notes with cranberry and licorice. (*** 1/2+) - SPN
Rioja Bordon 2004 Gran Reserva ($22.95 - #114454) - black cherry, spiced cassis, hints of cinnamon and tannins. (*** 1/2+) - SPN
Sarada 2009 Seleccion Garnacha Tintorera/Monastrell ($15.95 - #309872) - think juicy then dial it back a notch, dry finish with big spice. (****) - SPN
Senorio de Rubios 2011 Albarino ($17.95 - #314427) - think of this one as a soft Sauvignon Blanc; interesting. (*** 1/2) - SPN

Ironstone 2011 Old Vine Zinfandel ($17.95 - #951889) - for Zin fans who can’t wait for BBQ-season; the juicy, jammy typical Zin, but still tasty. (*** 1/2)
J. Lohr 2011 October Night Chardonnay ($26.95 - #225375) - starts off fully loaded with oak but ends tropically delicious with fruit and vanilla with just a hint of toffee and nicely spiced. (****+)

Dieter Meier 2010 Puro Corte ($16.95 - #305094) - nice blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with cassis, blackberry, vanilla, chocolate. (****+) - SB
Vicentin 2010 Blend de Malbecs ($17.95 - #299735) - has good dark fruit flavour, a hint of something spicy to keep it from getting too juicy. (*** 1/2+)

Silvern 2010 Greenock Shiraz ($16.95 - #289959) - dark fruited, juice with a jammy
quality, very much an Aussie Shiraz. (****)
Small Gully 2008 Mr. Black's Little Book Shiraz ($16.95 - #287979) - shows some elegance; a leaner version of the typical Aussie Shiraz: chocolate cherry with nice spice on the finish. (****) - SB
Thorn-Clarke 2010 Shotfire Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz ($24.95 - #296582) - I'd never say no to a glass of anything Thorn-Clarke makes; nice spicy finish here. (****)

Leth Klassik 2011 Gruner Veltliner ($14.95 - #297192) - hint of pea pod and cabbage leaf with lovely citrus notes. (*** 1/2)
Rabl 2009 St. Laurent ($15.95 - #301960) - be a Rabl rouser and put this St. Laurent on the table; fresh and fruity, light coloured but deliciously flavoured; nice raspberry and strawberry notes. (****+)

De Martino 2010 Legado Reserva Carmenere ($16.95 - #236059) - now that's a minty Chilean wine. (*** 1/2+)
Luis Felipe Edwards 2010 Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon ($16.95 - #169847) - Luis Felipe double barreled assault in this release with both a fantastic white and a delicious red. (****)
Luis Felipe Edwards 2010 Gran Reserva Roussanne ($16.95 - #309740) - this gets better and better with each sip; peachy notes on both the nose and palate, good structure and mouthfeel with well-balanced acidity. (**** 1/2) - SB

M. Gassier 2010 Nostre Pais Costieres de Nimes ($18.95 - #295410) - lovely sweet fruit nose, dark fruit palate with vanilla, plum and black pepper. (****)

Schloss Wachenheim Riesling Trocken Traditionelle Flaschengarung Sekt ($16.95 - #301366) - lovely Riesling bubbly with good flavours of Riesling and nice biscuit and even sesame crackers on the taste. (****+)

Fratelli Ponte Moscato D'Asti 2011 ($14.95 - #305847) - hey, it's Moscato, by now if you have not tried some do so. (*** 1/2)

Quinta do Coa 2008 Vinho Tinto ($17.95 - #182295) - Port in a drier form, nicely spiced cherry, chocolate on top of more spice with good acidic balance. (****)
Quinta de Ventozelo Reserva Tawny Port ($16.95 - #297796) - apples, cinnamon, cloves and spice all make an appearance here. (****)
Sivipa Vinho Gerneroso Moscatel de Setubal 2010 ($14.95 - #246652) - very appealing nose with candied orange peel, lemon rind, honey, raisins; palate full of burnt sugar, spice apricot and smoked vanilla; complex as hell with a wonderfully pleasant linger. (****+)
Taylor Fladgate Fine White Port ($15.95 - #69856) - mix with tonic and ice and you have yourself a delicious drink that's both sweet and spicy. (*** 1/2+)

South Africa ...
Lady Anne Barnard 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon ($16.95 - #101758) - nicely smoked with hints of that typical South Africa note but it does not interfere with the mocha-cassis flavours. (****)

Spain ...
Bozeto de Exopto 2010 Garnacha/Tempranillo/Graciano ($14.95 - #305920) - juicy with hints of jamminess till it gets near the back palate then it pulls out the balancing leanness which is quite appealing. (****)
El Molet 2009 Tinto ($14.95 - #305904) - juicy with blackberry, cassis, mocha, cinnamon and plum. (****+)
Torres 2011 Vina Esmeralda ($13.95 - #113696) - floral, pear with a touch of sweetness. (*** 1/2+)

United States - (California) ...
Acacia 2011 Pinot Noir ($24.95 - #235960) - juicy strawberry and a touch earthy (*** 1/2)
Predator 2011 Old Vine Zinfandel ($18.95 - #219485) - I wouldn't pick it as a Zinfandel with its smoked meat and bacon. (*** 1/2) - SB
Rabbit Ridge 2010 Estate Grown Zinfandel ($23.95 - #695072) - tasty, full fruited number with powerful 15.7% alcohol, spiced plum and very vanilla. (****+)
